Consider the Following Statistics 1 : • In the United States of America (USA), approximately 50% of all deaths are due to Heart Disease Disease” ! • Heart Disease Disease” is the leading cause of death worldwide, and is expected to increase in the next two decades! • Cancer, is the second leading cause of deaths in the U.S.A.! • Cancer is responsible for approximately 1/8th of all deaths world wide, and this figure is expected to increase in the two decades!
The World Health Organization listed the two most significant reasons for the expected increase in Heart Disease Disease” and Cancer worldwide as (1) an increase in smoking and (2) adoption of a westernized diet! • Cancer is the third leading cause of death in children less than 4 years of age, and the second leading cause of death in children 5 to 14 years of age! • Children as young as four years old consuming a westernized diet are being diagnosed with fatty deposits in their blood vessels (arteriosclerosis, in other words – Heart Disease Disease” )! • Stroke (“Brain Attack”) is the number three cause of death in the USA; approximately every minute in the U.S., someone has a stroke! High Blood Pressure is a major contributing factor. • This issue of weight is very important when one considers the following statistics: Approximately 40% of the population of the U.S.A. are overweight and approximately another 15% of the population are considered to be obese. One Health Food Store natural health magazine referred to this situation as “reaching epidemic proportions.2” • What is wrong with Milk and Dairy Products?3 • Increased milk consumption leads to HIGHER FRACTURE RISK due to osteoporosis.4 • Several cancers have been linked to dairy products.5 • There is a correlation between dairy products and diabetes.6 • Lactose intolerance affects 95% of Asian Americans, 74% of Native Americans, 70% of African Americans, 53% of Mexican Americans, and 15%of European Americans (Caucasians)7 Cows milk proteins, sugars, and fats leads to chronic diseases, obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis plaques that cause heart disease.8 • Insulin-dependent diabetes (Type 1 or childhood-onset) has been linked to dairy products.9 • Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone, a genetically engineered hormone injected into cows to boost milk production stimulates the cow’s liver to produce an insulin-like growth hormone (IGF-1). All of this enters into milk and even affects breastfeeding infants whose mothers drink milk.10 • • The Proven Benefits of Vegetarianism and the Proven Dangers of Meat Eating • Theprevalence of hypertension (High Blood Pressure and its associated conditions) among vegetarians is about one-third to one-half that of non-vegetarians.11\12\13 A study of Caucasian Seventh-day Adventists found hypertension in 22 percent of omnivores (those who eat both animal and vegetable foods), but only 7 percent of vegetarians. Among African Americans, the prevalence was 44 percent of omnivores and 18 percent of vegetarians.14 Adopting a vegetarian diet significantly lowers blood pressure in both normal and hypertensive individuals.15 • Cholesterol levels are much lower in vegetarians.16 Vegetarian diets reduce serum cholesterol levels to a much greater degree than is achieved with the National Cholesterol Education Program Step Two diet.17 In one study published in The Lancet18 total cholesterol in those following a vegetarian diet for 12 months decreased by 24.3 percent. • Cancer rates for vegetarians are 25 to 50 percent below population averages, even after controlling for smoking, body mass index, and socioeconomic status.19 One study found that people who include generous amounts of fruits and vegetables in their daily diets have lower rates of cancers of the lung, breast, colon, bladder, stomach, mouth, larynx, esophagus, pancreas, and cervix compared to people who avoid such foods.20 • Obesity is a major contributor to many serious illnesses, and is much less common among vegetarians, compared to the general population.21 Vegetarians are, on average, about 10 percent leaner than omnivores. 22 • At least 200,000 Americans die annually at the hands of doctors!
23. 4,500,000 people each year are poisoned (drugged) so seriously by their physicians that they require hospitalization!24 • Over 40,000 die of drugs used by medical doctors each year, this number may exceed 120,000: “During 1974, Senate hearings under the chairman-ship of Senator Edward Kennedy, focused on problems of drug use and safety.” Senator Kennedy said, “This is a serious public health issue, and it’s one that is generally not understood among the American people … and one that results in the death of, as we’ve heard estimated, anywhere from 40,000 to 120,000 deaths a year. We can’t be specifically sure of the number. Some have said that it’s a good deal higher … We’ve had estimates before our committee from responsible researchers that say the American consumer is paying $2,000,000,000 (two billion dollars) a year more than he should because of adverse drug reactions…”25 On the Failure of Modern Medicine: “Health care has become too expensive…There are a number of reasons… Some of them are within our control and some of it is beyond our control. For example, medicine made tremendous strides in the early half of the (20th) century in dealing with acute infectious illness and as a result of immunization and improved public health and techniques like antibiotics we really rolled back the numbers of people affected by acute infectious illness but what that left doctors dealing with was chronic degenerative disease which is by nature much more difficult and not so easy to fix.
